Hello all, I hope this post finds everyone well. I'm currently researching my husband's family tree and, with a little help from older relatives, have discovered that his great-grandfather, James Charles Bennett, was part of the Green Howards. This is the info I have so far:
Part of the Green Howards, presumably with the Middlesbrough pals, though this isn't guaranteed
Potentially was stationed at least temporarily in India
The family are confident he was a Sgt. Major
Was born 1898, so would have been of an age to fight WW1 though not old enough to rule out WW2 entirely
Born Middlesbrough in 1898, no idea of occupation.
Parents' names: James Bennett and Elizabeth (née Fowler). Siblings' names (that I know of): Matha, Fred, Harry, Joseph, Jabez, Douglas.
If anyone could give advice, even just pointing me in the right direction for further research, that would be a huge help. I've already combed Fold3 (the Ancestry military link site) to no avail. I know it would mean a lot to James Charles' son if we could find some records of his service as it is a point of great pride and fascination for the family.
Many thanks in advance!
